Exciting news; we have the beginnings of our very own flight cage!

Flight cages are an essential part of bat rehabilitation. They provide a secure space to fly sick or injured bats when they reach that stage of their recuperation. They are also a crucial step for hand-reared juveniles as they need to learn to cope with the elements and to develop the necessary flying and hunting skills that they will need to survive in the wild.
The cage still requires a little work before we can leave bats in it overnight such as fox-proofing and lining with a softer mesh. In addition, we would like to get extra panels made in order to extend it and make it suitable for larger bat species. Donations to this cause would be hugely appreciated and can be made by clicking here.

Huge thanks to Jack Heathcote for giving up his lawn for the cause and for assembling the cage. Our thanks also to Liz Greenwood and Peter Peersonic for gifting us one of Liz’s great EcoHabitat bat boxes!
